Otago region- Queenstown, Wanaka and Oamaru

The townships of Queenstown and Wanaka in the souther Lakes regions and Oamaru on the coast, south of Dunedin are some of the primary towns of this region however the early days of gold discoveries in this region have added yet another dimension to these very beautiful parts of New Zealand. The Otago Central Rail Trail takes you on a cycling or walking adventure of a lifetime through 150km of some of New Zealand's most memorable scenery and awe-inspiring gold mining history. This trail can be walked or biked over 2-3-4 days depending on your energy levels or desire to be up early or stay late. The scenery of this area has been captured on canvas by many of New Zealand foremost painters and much of this art work can be found in some of the unique galleries in downtown Queenstown.
